蒋南孙（张曼玉饰）和朱锁锁（钟楚红饰）在金色的太阳雨下相遇，性格不同年纪相仿的她们成为莫逆。二人偶遇中日混血男子宋家明，在海洋公园开心玩乐过后又失去联系，但是年轻的她们不在意，总觉得前路还有更好的。中学毕业后南孙继续升读大学，锁锁出来工作。懂得利用本钱的锁锁总是搬家，一次比一次豪华。而大学毕业后的南孙从低做起，不免觉得挨得辛苦。重遇宋家明对于南孙来说是乌云里的阳光，面对家明对锁锁现状的追问，南孙敏感地避而不答。南孙父亲炒楼失败，突发心脏病死亡。锁锁大方出手相助，帮蒋家渡过难关。南孙觉得自己不应该自私，让锁锁和家明见面了。
