先说说导演的取景，此片常常挑选有激烈“裂缝”感的布景，这类布景带给人一种茫然和失落，比如在弟弟和邻家小女孩生机后，又去天台道歉，那天台的取景就很妙，还有片尾的长镜头，也是影片取景最妙之处，那是一种说不出来的孤单，可见导演的审美已经到了很高的境界。
再说说布景音乐，此片的布景音乐由GRP唱片公司的老板Dave Grusin操刀，钢琴的SOLO和“冷爵士”，空洞的SAX，还有，援用了两首JAZZ名曲。Dave Grusin给电影配乐的功底自然是没话说，成本行了吗，可是在他的职业生活中，“愚蠢的贝克兄弟”也是他最光辉的一笔。
本片的艺术代价要远远高于它的贸易代价，超级影迷不会不晓得这部电影的，此片获得1989年度影评人最好女配角，最好音乐等多项大奖，是不成多得的文艺片佳作。
