简 介
故事发生在1964年的6月，一辆载有三位民权主义者的车辆被三K党所劫持，以后一行人音信全无。鲁帕特（吉恩·哈克曼 Gene Hackman 饰）和艾伦（威廉·达福 Willem Dafoe 饰）是两帮观察局的捕快，他们被指派观察这起卑劣的事务，但是，当两人到达小镇起头观察时，却发现他们的工作遭受了重重的困难，没有人愿意相信他们，更没有人可以供给有代价的线索。
皮尔（布拉德·道里夫 Brad Dourif 饰）是小镇的副镇长，同时亦是一位果断的三K党成员，本性粗鲁邪恶的他经常将脆弱温顺的妻子（弗兰西斯·麦克多蒙德 Frances McDormand 饰）揍得皮开肉绽。鲁帕特非常怜悯皮尔妻子的遭受，随着时候的推移，皮尔的妻子渐渐对鲁帕特发生了豪情，这让鲁帕特和艾伦看到了案件的冲破口。
