洛杉矶差人将正在掠夺银行的乔（Bruce Willis 饰）与泰瑞（Billy Bob Thornton 饰）团团包围，断无脱身机遇之时，两人昔日的履历一幕幕回放出现：崇尚行动的乔与三言两语的泰瑞服刑时姑且起意逃狱居然获得成功，两报酬生存找来乔伊表弟哈维筹算抢劫银行，他们掠夺俄勒冈银行的奇异手法经媒体衬着后一时竟成为著名“留宿劫匪”，三人得手后各奔前程。未几，被丈夫萧瑟而出走的红发女郎凯特（Cate Blanchett 饰）结识泰瑞，不知不觉融入乔一伙并与乔堕入热恋，泰瑞对凯特也很有好感，经过拙笨的尽力终究拉近了两人的间隔。乔与泰瑞面临摊牌，但凯特暗示他们两人在一路才是自己所爱，舒服的时光总嫌长久，在不竭掠夺银行的行动中，乔和泰瑞走到了犯罪生活的尽头……
本片按照实在故事改编，获2002年佛罗里达影评人协会奖最好男配角、女配角奖。
