◎简 介
故事发生在华盛顿的一家消息电视台当中。珍妮（霍利·亨特 Holly Hunter 饰）是就职于其中的消息节目建造人，恪尽责守的她具有激烈的道德感和义务心，是建造组内的中坚气力。在一次采访中，播报员汤姆（威廉·赫特 William Hurt 饰）竟被采访工具感动留下了泪水，这让珍妮感应大为震动，不由倾慕于汤姆的善良和纯真。
艾伦（艾伯特·布鲁克斯 Albert Brooks 饰）是珍妮的同伴，在他眼中，汤姆的流泪是一场彻彻底底的圈套和表演，但是并没有人相信他。电视台裁员在即，欠亨人情圆滑的艾伦惨遭解雇，而精明又圆滑的汤姆反而节节爬升。荣幸的是，终极，究竟证实了汤姆的虚假，也让珍妮做出了正确的挑选。
