在伊朗的一个小镇里，有一个10岁大与母亲生活在一路的男孩，他与普通孩子唯一的分歧就是双目失明，但天主却给了他极好的听觉。所以，他的工作是在乐器行当调音师，以及创作自己的音乐。天天，他坐车去一个生产乐器的作坊，穿越于都会的喧闹声中，用耳朵感受天下。
严酷意义上讲，影片并没有给出什么故事，而是以一幅幅让人印象深入的构图，摸索人类与声音的关系，让观众静静地专心去体味，去感受。
《天籁无声》获邀加入1998年威尼斯国际电影节，并获得"出格关注"在内的三个奖项，被影评人Harlan Kennedy誉为是此次影展中最优异的影片。
