七年前，天下著名的纽约舞蹈团，遭遇了极大的冲击，由于他们落空了其中最具精采的艺术指导亚历麦葛拉（Alex McGrath），也即是落空了他们的创意支柱，同时，舞团内并无人有本事接下他的工作。这意味著舞团的竣事之日行将到来。 亚历留下了一段从未颁发的舞作，七年后，纽约舞蹈团感觉应当藉著颁发这出舞作，乘隙使舞团再次团结。
但是，为了让这出巨大的遗作可以实现，需要三个深具原创性的绝佳舞者，好好表示这出舞作的创意。 而崔维斯（派屈克史威兹）、克丽莎（丽莎·妮米）以及麦斯三位舞者在这七年间，生活也有了极大的变化。崔维斯虽然靠开设塑身中心赚了很多钱，可是在他的心里深处仍故意愿未完成；雀儿莎已经完全放弃了专业舞蹈的天下；麦克斯则自觉除了舞蹈之外毫无一无所长。 要追随已经失落的舞蹈胡想，这是他们的最初一次机遇。
他们再次聚会练舞，有抵触、也故意碎的时辰，更考验著相互的关系。这是一支令他们心碎的舞作。而在他们面临这出巨大的舞作之时，他们更先得面临心中实在的自我。
