在看过2006年上映的情况庇护电影《难以轻忽的真相》后，导演吉普·安德森成为了一位环保主义者。他在平常生活中起头循环操纵物资、随手关灯、节俭用水并经常骑车上班、低碳出行。就在2014年，他发现了一个自己从未关注过、关于情况庇护的电影拍摄题材：畜牧业。
“《奶牛诡计：永久不能说的奥秘》既尖锐又不失滑稽，它表露了大型畜牧业养殖场对地球生态情况酿成的使人难以置信的影响”，安德森在接管采访时说道，“这类影响绝对是扑灭性的”。
