◎简 介
日本封建時代統治者為了鞏固政權，把人民分為不同階級。被稱作「多穢」、「非人」的部落民，長年飽受歧視和折騰，時至今日，餘燼尚存。改編自島崎藤村原著小說，本片背景為明治後期，部落民出身的小學教師瀨川謹守父親的戒律，竭力隱瞞身份；幾經掙扎，終於鼓起勇氣面對自己。攝影師宮川一夫曾為溝口健二、黑澤明多部名作掌鏡，野外場景富有史詩風範，捕捉了部落民與天地相生相剋的關係；古裝片巨星市川雷藏擔演時裝片，散發獨特的哀愁、澄明、純美；性格演員岸田今日子扮演部落民解放運動領袖的妻子，個性溫婉卻意志堅定，演活了活出自我的新女性。《電影旬報》年度十大第四位。
