　　在履历了28年的牢狱之灾后，沃尔（阿尔·帕西诺 Al Pacino 饰）终究重新回到了自在的怀抱，久违的老友道克（克里斯托弗·沃肯 Christopher Walken 饰）前来驱逐，两人都没法抑制各自心里的冲动和高兴。虽然在沃尔服刑时代，天下发生了天翻地覆的变化，但和老朋友之间的友谊仍然果断而持久。以后，老友赫希（艾伦·阿金 Alan Arkin 饰）也加入了沃尔和道克的狂欢当中，他们一边回忆着昔日往事，一边纵情享用着自在带来的欢畅和纵容。
　　欢畅总是长久的，在道克的心里，藏着一个让他感应繁重非常的奥秘。本来，道克受黑帮老迈所托，意图撤除刚刚出狱的沃尔。看着沃尔毫无防御的面孔，在友谊和道义之间，道克没法做出挑选，而他用来完成使命的时候已经所剩无几。
