　　在本片中，奎氏兄弟二人仿佛化身为破解16世纪欧洲绘绘图像密码的研讨人。该片如同一部科教片甚至教程，它将在剪下的纸片上绘制的人像和立体木偶连系起来，浑然一体地同时表示出平面和立体定格动画的特点。片中所讲授的是16世纪的一些欧洲绘画中是怎样将隐晦的图像经过透视变形转化为可以掩人线人的另一重直观图像的：一幅画正面看上去是风光画，而从斜侧面看去则能看出另一个肖像。
　　电影在竣事前举出了应用这类图像失真的绘画方式的最著名的例子——小汉斯?荷尔拜因在1533年所作的《大使肖像》。该画的中下方阿谁著名的“骷髅透视”同时也暗示了“荷尔拜因”这一位字的由来：“Holbein”即“Hollow bone”——“Hohl bein”之意。
