简　　介
　　保罗·柯蒂斯是个作曲家，他租借了一个英国妇女阿尔伍德太太森林房产中的一座小屋子，同妻子海伦和两个女儿，十七岁的简和十岁的埃莉搬到了那边。性情孤僻的阿尔伍德太太使两个女孩子感应惧怕，她们感觉屋子的氛围阴森怪僻，而且偶然她们还会遭到一种奥秘外力的安排，从而不自觉地干出一些违反小我意志的事来。
　　在简差点被使人眩晕的光圈勾引着走进水中、而实时赶到的阿尔伍德太太救下她以后，阿尔伍德太太讲出了自己的奥秘：她三十年前有个女儿卡伦，经三个朋友的先容加入了一个奥秘团体，在举行仪式时，雷电击中了教堂的塔尖，卡伦就此稀里糊涂地失落了。
　　未几，收到了信号的简取代了卡伦的位置，同三个朋友重新举行入会仪式。在仪式停止的时辰，埃莉忽然进入教堂，用一种非人的、恍如来自另一天下生物的声音说道：卡伦被带走是一个误解。
