　　影片忠厚地记录了在泰国的“金鱼缸”、孟加拉的穷户窟妓院以及墨西哥的红灯区，当地妓女的实在生活。没有表演与造作，镜头里是她们疾苦而无法的生活，是被轻视被褫夺的庄严，也是惺惺相惜间的奋斗和挣扎。影片并没有从道德角度评价这些妓女的做法和行为，只是以旁观者的角度，让观众近间隔领会妓女这个行业和她们保存的状态。这些深深震动我们心里的情节与真相，将从两性、婚姻和宗教看法等方面探讨娼妓文化和它存在代价。
　　由奥天时导演米歇尔·格拉沃格执导的记载片《妓女的光荣》是“全球化记载片三部曲”中的最初一部，别的两部别离是1998年的《大都会》和2005年的《劳工之死》。本片入围2011年威尼斯电影节的地平线单元，并摘得评审团大奖。
