　　乔尼五号天真善良，乐于助人，不谙世事，恍如孩童。他尽力帮助设想者本杰明生产玩具，还帮他谈恋爱。这一点也使他出格轻易为好人操纵。开初是帮小偷“拿”轿车里的声响，后来是帮奥斯卡“取出”银行金库里的钻石，还被奥斯卡一伙打得半死。可是，当他大白成了好人的爪牙后，他就象一切的人类豪杰一样，冒着生命危险，将罪犯拘系归案。终极乔尼五号也被美国政府所接管，成为一位美国百姓。
　　乔尼五号让我们看到人与机械人的另一种关系：朋友。
　　乔尼五号正是人类想要的机械人范例：聪明、善良但表面懦弱。他与人类的关系是同等的，不存在谁奴役谁，谁统治谁的题目，是相互帮助互惠互利的朋友。
