幕后建造
本片是无厘头巨星金·凯瑞成名作，他在片中的飞机头外型夸张而抢眼，指手划脚的大行动更打破了好莱坞笑星的固有表演形式，被中国影迷称为“西方周星驰”。文艺片女星西恩·扬在片中有牺牲色相的搞笑表演。在这之前，凯瑞曾在一个黑人的笑剧小品电视节目中演了七年的白人安排。本片遭到批评家的分歧鄙弃及影迷的疯狂追捧。续集《王牌威龙二：非洲大疯狂》（Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls，1995）将场景移到非洲，金·凯瑞为非洲部落的战争而继续他的疯狂搞笑。
花絮
·片中出现的Shady Acres精神医院是在暗指导演汤姆·沙迪亚克的姓氏“Shadyac”。
·劳恩·霍利曾合作本片的女配角。
